§ 2-35. Civil service classified positions; police and fire departments.

  • (a)

    The classified positions under civil service in the fire department shall remain as follows:

    Fire lieutenant 4
    Fire pumper engineer 12

    (b)

    The classified positions under civil service in the police department shall be as follows:

    Position Number
    Assistant police chief 2
    Police lieutenant 5
    Sergeants 6
    Corporal 4
    Police patrol officer 50

     

    Field training officer assignment pay for police officers:

    (1)

    The city council authorizes field training officer assignment pay for police officers as authorized by V.T.C.A., Local Government Code § 143.043, Civil Service.

    (2)

    The assignment of "field training officer" is a specialized assignment within the Waxahachie Police Department.

    (3)

    The assignment of "field training officer" involves training and evaluating police recruits on the policies, practices and procedures of the Waxahachie Police Department. The police chief assigns capable police personnel to this position of responsibility in accordance with his or her demonstrated knowledge and familiarity with the field training officers program.

    (4)

    Because the assignment of "field training officer" requires additional and specialized duties, members who are assigned to perform these duties are entitled to receive one hundred dollars ($100.00) per month as assignment pay.

    (c)

    The annual/monthly base rate of pay for each of the above-captioned classified positions shall be determined by each year's budget.

    (d)

    The positions of assistant fire chief and assistant police chief shall be appointed positions, appointed by the head of the department.
